Larry Reynolds Architect The Wichita Boathouse is a highly visible, unique addition to our community and a substantial improvement over the vacant and deteriorated office and warehouse building it replaced. The intent from the beginning of this renovation project was to try and capture the theme and feeling of Wichita's original boathouse, which was long-since demolished but fondly remembered by many Wichitans. To accomplish that feeling, an extensive balcony system was constructed around three sides of the building and the new mansard roof line replaced the pitched-roof effect of the old boathouse. The interior is open and airy, with wide expanses of polished wood and nautical features. The boathouse includes a museum, gift shop and banquet hall facility. Rainbow earned an award of excellence for this project, the highest honor awarded by the Associated General Contractors of Kansas.
